Hi,
Just seen a new diabetes nurse and she has suggested I should be taking metformin as well as insulatard(20 units twice daily) which I have been on for 9 years,I think she suggested this as my last "bloods" indicated 8.5 as opposed to the normal 6 to 7.5 on past checks.I know the reason for the increase is because I have been under the weather recently (few weeks) and have neglected the gym! However the nurse ignored this and is a little insistent regards the metformin.
Would I be better off with yet another medication(already take 7 pills a day, blood pressure etc)or am I scared of change!

Hi, Jim, don't think I am expert enough to give you advice, but I am 3 metformin on it's own and it is helping me greatly so maybe it will give you that added help...just thought I would say hi and I am sure an expert will be along in a minute :)

thanks for that sam! I've never heard anything bad about metformin but just wondered if anyone was taking it along with insulatard.Incidently I am in northumberland not too far from you 8)

Woo hello local :) I am off to Morpeth tomorrow to see a friend. i love it up there and am determined to live there one day.
I find metformin wonderful...well now the grumbling tum and the wind have died down

I have always taken the view that my DN and Doc can suggest a change in my meds, but if I don't like it, then it won't happen. Probably why I ended up going private.

They tried putting me on Simvastatin and a blood pressure tablet I didn't like the look of, strangely I don't take either now.
