Hi,
Just joined this forum so wanted to know if anyone has similar cicumstances to me..
I just turned 20 and have had type 1 since I was 5. I've always had good control (HBA1C was consistently 7.0) until I turned 18 and starting experimenting with alcohol and my battle with depression worsened. My control soon started slipping and is in mid 8's now after bringing it down from high 9's. Still struggling with both and how they're affecting my control but just wanted to know if anyone else has been or is in similar circumstances and has any advice or recommendations as to how to regain control or help either of the things affecting it..
Cheers

Hey I am the same with Alcohol and I find it very hard to control especially with the lows.
I also found that my mood dropped with drink generally. your not alone at all with it and I have know some who could and others who really could not.

Do you carb count? And do you find different alcohol has a different effect in you? I know for me vodka has very little compared to larger because of the carb

Hey, yeah I carb count and always have done. Beer raises my sugars by maybe a unit or two so is mainly what I stick to. Cider has too much sugar so my levels spike too much and vodka acts much like insulin, lowering my sugars - plus if I have any mixers, very few clubs will do diet mixers which can be complicated.

I don't generally bother counting the carbs in drink, I find alcohol is too unpredictable to rely on the carbs alone so have gotten used to specific drinks and how much insulin I generally need for each (in my case light beer - Coors light etc).

What's the worst thing with the alcohol for you? Depression wise have you considered any talking therapies or doctor support?

Sounds like you know your body and what works for you
