Hi, just joined today. I've been hypothyroid for many years and unable to convert synthetic levothyroxine into T3 so take 3x20mcg liothyronine tabs per day. A couple of years ago my I developed glucose intolerance and I've noticed the lower my TSH levels the higher my Hb1ac. I have changed my diet and exercise as much as I can but have entered the prediabetic range again at 43, my TSH was 0.86. A few months ago my Hb1ac was 37 and the TSH was 4.5. Anyone else out there noticed this connection? Also what's the optimum time after eating to work that sugar off, without causing indigestion? Thanks.

could be that one's liver transforms proteins into blood glucose in a much slower rate when metabolism is much slower, but I think there would be a turning-point when metabolism is far too low where all processes in our body will get somewhat out of whack...

when people have no function at all of their thyroid glands in the old days, they would gain enormously and during a few years become severely retarded mentally and in the end die from this not functioning metabolism.

there is a margin of too high metabolism and on the other hand a margin of too low metabolism .. inside this margin of normal level each person has to find his or her ideal level... sadly our GP´s are too lazy to take really care of that and are mostly satisfied with just having a person inside the wide margin, not caring of how the person feels at that level..

some people gain hugely when their TSH is around the highest of the normal level, and this of cause almost always make diabetes much worse.

it is important not to get to a number of TSH not lower than 0.010 , also because it takes a big toll on the bodies bones...

@ZappBrannigan I am in the same boat as you. I got my liothyronine from abroad but that supply has dried up so I am without them now. My GP blood test shows that I am below reference limit but the NHS will not prescribe them because they cost too much. Where do you get yours from please?

You should go on the site https://healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk for advice, they are very helpful.

I reduced my tsh and started metabolising properly. Only by having perfect bgs with insulin therapy.
I test more than 8 times a day.

I use toujeo300 basal insulin and novarapid to control my bgs. My last hba1c was 48 which was sufficient to get my tsh at good levels.

I often wonder if supplement r-ala which helps with neuropathy damage has helped somehow with the insulin pathway healing my thyroid. I have stopped this supplement and 60g-100g carbs.
I'm back on 100g carbs, just a few days. I'm very tired but bgs are nearly settled again.
I'm feeling positive that good control and low carb diet is the KEY.
Good control with insulin therapy does have benefits, for me.

However my blood tests don't show a lack of t3.
