I think this belongs here, since it has to be a function of the Animas Vibe Pump.

Does anyone know how I can check the battery life of my Dexcom transmitter through my Vibe?

I know the Dexcom receivers tell you your transmitter life, but as of yet I haven't found out how to do this on my Vibe. My concern is that I'll be a couple days into a sensor and my transmitter will die leaving me without AND waste the sensor.

I know the smart thing is to just always have a backup transmitter, but the 6month warranty begins at purchase, not first use so buying early hurts you.

Any tips?

As far as I know, there's no way of knowing until you have the warning message. :(
If it helps my transmitter lasted about 14 months.

So it gives you a warning message at least? At which i can order a new one?

I asked Animas about the timing of the message and sensor death and Animas stated it could happen within hours or last a week.
I was very lucky as sensor lasted another week after the alert, but did notice the sensor was not as accurate in that last week.
In the UK the warranty starts from the day of purchase not the day of first use so I'm loath to have a spare in stock :(

There is a way to keep the sensor ok without the transmitter. Use one of those cartridge bags and pull off the plastic bag bit which is nice and stiff. Cut it in half and lay it across the top of the sensor and then tape the plastic to the skin to protect the sensor wire from being damaged. Get on the phone and order another transmitter which should be delivered within 2 days and then take off the plastic protecting the sensor wire, press on new transmitter and enter I'd, start new session.

I think its that way everywhere - We get 6 months from day of purchase. Which is both silly and makes sense. It makes sense because they have no way of proving its first use, and silly because the battery only begins to discharge when its detached from its original packaging - so it could sit on a shelf for a month before use and still be at full charge.
