Hi everyone,
I have only just joined the forum. I have done several searches to see if this has already been raised, but not found an answer. Please forgive me if I am going over old ground.
My diabetes is reasonably under control. I have been on Humalog mix 25 for over 15 years without too many issues. I have had a couple of hypos requiring assistance from others, one in October 2011 and the other in December 2011. These both happened effectively on wakening in the morning. I am very aware while I am awake, but don't see how I can be when I am asleep. The second one happened the week I get out of hospital having had an operation, and I am sure that had some effect.
My driving license was due for renewal in March 2012, and I duly filled in all the forms. I got a letter a couple of days ago saying that the DVLA was banning me. I can really understand if I had been having severe hypos during the day. Personally, I don't think I would want to drive if that were the case. I am very aware of when my blood sugar is going low while I am awake.
The question, finally, is has anyone appealed? I have six months to go until the anniversary of my first hypo. Is the appeals procedure likely to take longer than that?
Thanks for reading this.
