As I have now been diagnosed with type 2
Applications are in general handled through our GP practice as they are required to certify the diagnosis and medication. As far as I remember you can only claim prescription exemption if you are prescribed medication for diabetes and you dont say if you are on meds for it or just diet controlled.
Diet controlled T2's do not qualify, but if you are on diabetic meds then as someone else has said just keep the receipts and you can claim them back.
Most pharmacies don't bother to ask to see either medical exemption or pre-payment certificates as there is no requirement to produce it - but there are random checks on declarations. And depending how well you know your pharmacist they may well not charge you for your meds as they will know what you are
prescribed if they are dispensing them, I dont ever recall showing my certificate to my pharmacist, they just asked me to sign the back of the prescription, although it is an offence not to pay for meds if you are not exempt.
Pharmacies in my local town have a large notice displayed requesting the client claiming free prescriptions has the required proof due to a government crackdown. Most pharmacies don't bother to ask to see either medical exemption or pre-payment certificates as there is no requirement to produce it - but there are random checks on declarations.
Thank youContact the NHS Business Services Authority on 0300 330 9291 (8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm on Saturday) to make sure the application has reached them. Two to three weeks is not unusual but you seem to be well over that now.
It is backdated when it does get issued, so you can then apply for a pro rata refund on your existing pre-payment certificate. They don't provide a form for that so you have to return the certificate with a covering letter.
Hi, sorry. As far as I remember you can only claim prescription exemption if you are prescribed medication for diabetes and you dont say if you are on meds for it or just diet controlled.

Thank you.Hi I spoke to pre-payment prescription people yesterday I had to fill out a form which the gp then signs and sends to them. It then takes another four weeks on top to receive the certificate. So I'm guessing you should hear something in the next week or so. Which is why they back date it. I was advised to continue to use my prepayment card until I received the other one in the post. Then phone up pre-payment dept and tell them I'm excerpt and no longer require it. I believe you can get a refund for any prepayment not required and the exception is is back dated a month.
So don't worry yet. Or to set your mind at ease phone them.
