Appointment with practice nurse tomorrow morning

....for a well woman check.

My Hba1c was 41 last week on a routine blood test. I haven't been diagnosed as prediabetic but I'm overweight and I have swiftly moved on to this site's Low Carb Program and the teachings of the wonderful Dr Unwin. I've previously posted about this.

So I intend to tell her this but I don't want to be referred to the prediabetic NHS clinic if it's offered, and I would refuse it. My husband (very slim) was referred to this a while ago as his Hba1C was something like 43. I went along with him to have a look at what the advice was. However when the nurse tested him again it had gone right back to well within the normal range (and still is) so she didn't have much to say. She was very nice but obviously not entirely onboard with the teachings of the Low Carb Program. And that was that really.

Would I be correct in saying that all practice nurses are aware of the Low Carb Program and if not what is the easiest way to explain it? I saw that there is a 'letter to GP's' on the Low Carb Program site but I can't find it so if anyone has a moment to send me the link I'll just take it with me.

My practice nurse wasn’t quite there with it yet when I spoke to her the other week. Teetering on the edge, I would say. I am dealing with my doctor in the main who is fully clued in with the David Unwin stuff.

I would say the practise nurse I dealt with is aware but not completely and utterly converted but maybe getting there.
 
Thanks everyone for advice. Saw the Practice Nurse this morning who is very a very nice lady. I mentioned the HbA1C first of all and told her that I'd already started, knew what I have to do, and didn't want to go to the Diabetic Nurse service. I showed her a print out of the Low Carb programme which she said she knew about, but she was more interested in the fact that I need to get the reading down and also watch portion control (quite a tricky one for me). I asked for another blood test in six months as in fact I do have to do this for another reason.
 
Okay. My GP has agreed to me having an HbA1c every 3 months.

That's nice of him.

I have to have a blood test for Digoxin levels every three months, and I can get other blood tests added to the request form. Hba1c and lipids are every six months so they are due again in June, the last hab1c I had done the other week was an off the cuff one.

I am finding it harder to fast for the lipid test as I get older, as I need my coffee first up in the morning.
 
What’s the lipid test for? Cholesterol? And triglycerides?
 
A Hba1c costs the CCG very little to process at the lab, it costs a GP nothing. However the GP has to pay the staff cost of taking the blood and reviewing the test results. Hence it should be easy to get a Hba1c added if other tests are being done.
 

I'm a zombie without coffee, but I'm fortunate that QML is just a 15 min drive into town and there is a cafe that serves it all directly across the street.

The Sullivan Nicolaides pathology shop I go to is a five minute walk from where I live. It's handy living close to these services near the private hospitals a couple of blocks away.

I used to get my bloods done at QML years ago.

Doesn't get any closer then that!

Yeah, it is handy, especially fasting for tests when you're hungry etc.

I get breakfast there at the Atrium Cafe with a great cup of their finest black coffee when I go for fasting tests

Nurses can't possess all knowledge on this planet. She is testing you upon her empirical knowledge got in the college. The thing is in such situations when you feel that the doctor/nurse have no idea what you are taking or regime you are following, you have to tell them straight what is all about. They aren’t Gods and some information is new for them even after many years of working.
