Apps for Carb Counting

Hi
I am newly diagnosed and am reeling. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 18 months ago and while they messed with my meds they put me on high steroids and woomph! next stop Type 2 diabetes.
I am struggling with what to do next - the nurse said don't monitor regularly just have a blood test year yearly, but with a count of 15.7 two hours after a healthy brekkie that's clearly not right. I wondered if any of you knew of a good carb counter on Android that I can use on my phone. I just paid £1.90 for four pages of what it means to be a diabetic (like I don't know) which was such a con.
Feeling a bit down - got two diseases for the price of one and I'm still in my forties!!

Try myfitnesspal or myfatsecret, both pretty good, it shows your carbs, cals, fats etc.
What was your 'healthy' breakfast by the way?

Hi Parsly, shredded wheat is just what it says on the pack - wheat. As Type 2, its better to eat to your meter. In other words test 2 hours after eating. If its high it means that the carbs you are eating aint that good for you. I low carb which means cutting out bread, pasta, rice, pastry etc, anything with flour in. It's not that hard it even means you get to eat bacon and eggs for brekkie.

Ok. That makes sense. Are any cereals good? I love my brekkie and bacon and eggs just doesnt do it for me :-( I have just done my blood after lunch and im 15! On crispbreads cream cheese salad and fruit. I obviously have a lot to learn! Thank you for you help. I could never give up carbs I would be starving! X

I haven't given up carbs, I get them from my veggies. Omlettes are good with peppers and onions etc in them. Cream in coffee, cheese, peperamis etc. The only fruit I eat are berries, eg. blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, I have them with greek yogurt or in some sugar free jelly with cream.
It's just a question of getting your head round the way we used to eat. No processed food, only eat something that has 1 ingredient, shop in the outer periphery of the shop. I look at it this way - I want to be able to walk and see until I die.

Hi guys I'm a type 1 and count my card rigorously I use a book called carbs and cals. It's full of everyday day foods and shows pictures of different sized portions and gives the weight, carb content and calories. I live with this book, helped massively. U can also get it on ur smart phone as an app. Just punch in carbs and cals. Check out the website too www.carbs and cals.com (or co.uk). Good luck
