Are Bananas bad for a type two diabetic?

Some posts have been moved to this thread here

Many T2 members would agree that bananas are too high carb for them to manage without them getting a blood glucose spike. Particularly ripe and overripe ones. Also that some fruits are too high carb for them. Berries seem to be better. Of course only way for individuals to know is to test BG levels .
Dried fruit does have concentrated sugar, and most would find that causes too high BG. Which is why some people use it to treat hypos.

are green bananas ok for T2 Diabetes, but as i was previously told by a Diabetes course that it is recommended to have half of a banana or half a apple or 5 grapes because of their sugar content

Hi Julie,

5 grapes have about 3gms of carbs, half a medium apple about 6gms carbs, and half a medium banana between 10 and 11pms of carbs. As a type 2 eating half a banana as a snack would raise my own blood sugar too much.

Do you have a meter to test your blood sugar?

If you want to see how half a banana affects you test your blood sugar before you eat it, then test again two hours later. Ideally you want to see a rise of no more than 2 after 2 hours.

Does that make sense?

It’s a good rule to follow to see how any food affects you.
