Hi I'm not sure if I'm on the right page I am not diabetic but after a slightly raised blood glucose level due to an infection 2 years ago, I decided to do a fasting blood test using my husbands test monitor. { he is diabetic} After not eating anything and only having water to drink for 12 hrs the level was 6.1 which some pages say is pre diabetic and others like this one say is fine. I then had a cup of tea [ with skimmed milk and a hermeseta] but nothing to eat and when I tested 2hrs later it had gone up to 6.4. [now over 14 hrs without eating ]
I am slightly overweight but walk practically everyday for 45mins to an hour. Is it possible for this to be linked to the sugar dump that diabetics and non diabetics can have in the mornings? ... and why the difference in so called 'normal fasting levels?
Thanks

I think the best thing would be to have an HbA1c test.

Hi Wendy41, please don't worry. A little knowledge is a **** nuisance sometimes. If I bang my head on a wall I might get a headache but that doesn't mean I've got a brain tumour. If you're really worried I suggest a trip to your GP to get tested properly.
Please give our best wishes to your husband. We are always here if you or he needs support in managing his diabetes.

Thanks Deejay and Catlady It gets slightly more puzzling...because after 14 hrs of fasting and going up from 6.1 to 6.4 on the blood monitor I then had a boiled egg and a piece of buttered wholemeal toast . Two hrs later my glucose reading was down to 5.6. !!! So I'm higher when fasting than after having eaten. Can anyone else suggest what is happening

I think the dawn phenomenon/liver dump happens to everyone, not just diabetics.
