Hi!
I wonder if it possible to get some advice before I visit my GP? I am sorry but the history is a bit long, but I will shorten as much as possible to decrease your boredom!
I had a gastric bypass in 2005 and have lost over half my body weight. I suffer from a range of deficiencies that have to be injected (B12, Iron) and supplemented (selenium, Vit D).
For years now I have had visual disturbances, and episodes of confusion, strange body movements, slapping my face, itching and weird stuff - even talking in a strange language!!! There is no particular pattern to them, but some I have a degree of awareness, others I cant remember what I did or what happened, other than feeling myself 'going'.
In 2009 i went abroad and as I entered the baggage claim, my vision went, I felt strange, and thought if i stand still it will be OK. I woke in an ambulance after seizing for (they said 6 minutes) and unconscious for 20. I had a nasty head injury, black bitten tongue and had weed myself (!!!)
On return, I was sent to a neurologist, and I told her I was sure that the events were due to sugar levels. She told me this was impossible, and my sugars would not get back to normal so quickly.
All MRI and EEGs were clear. She said it was not Epileptic, but 'unexplained altered consciousness and absences'. After faffing around with her and getting no where I decided not to go back as I was not being listened to.
I tried to get my (new) GP to agree to me having my driving lisence back. He couldn't, but said he thinks that the seizure type events may be due to the range of deficiencies. I still thought that it was down to glucose.
I got myself a blood glucose monitor and began testing. I have found that if I don't eat, I am fine with a range between 4.5 and 5.7
After I eat, within half an hour, it can go to 9.9.
Between 2-3 hours after I eat it drops to 3.1 - 3.5
I (my hubby) has tested when I had a recent 'wappy' as we call them and it was 2.4.
I thought that I had the evidence to go to the GP and say that I could possibly have reactive hypoglycemia. Until yesterday...
2 hours after eating 2 slices of brown bread and cheese, I felt funny, took my bloods and it was 1.4.
I felt ill all day, but my glucose rose to 3.5 then 5. and when at 5 I had a wappy!!!
So it seems that hypoglycemia dosent fit - or does it??? I am really confused and need help please!
Also, is it OK for blood glucose to go so high and so low? I do wonder as I can go from 9.9 - 3 in 30 minutes...it dosent seem quite right.
Thank you for reading and I hope that you can help
