Arm falling asleep during the night

I've been diagnosed about 1.5 month ago, and since then every day one of my arms is "falling asleep" during the night - i.e became numb so that I wake up.

Is it related to diabetes somehow? This only happens when I sleep, I did not notice any symptoms during the day.
Also I do not remember this happening too often before diagnosis.

trapped nerve? (I get one sometimes) Could be pressure on the nerve in the neck, shoulder area, or elbow area.

or of course I could be completely wrong! ;)

Have an internet search on the nerves in the arm - there are masses of anatomy pics out there.
I was able to isolate exactly which nerve was the prob, because it was tingling more in my little and ring finger => one particular nerve.

I then trundled off to a chiro, he listened, poked, prodded, found the place it was trapped (big slab of muscle on back of shoulder between neck and shoulder joint), zapped it with a heat thing and a percussive thing (technical terms!) and I walked out symptom free.

Just noticed the symptoms starting to return one day last week. Did a few exercises. Gone again.

Happy bunny.

Trapped nerve for me as well and agree with @Brunneria .... rotate your shoulder(s) gently every day, morning and night. Twist at wrist and elbow as well, clench fingers or in other words get all those joints moving.

Right hand over left shoulder, left one over your right and over a month or two, all my numbing disappeared.

You tube has some interesting exercises if you search under 'nerve flossing'.

The only proviso being that you DON'T want to start doing such exercises til you have a proper diagnosis. Could do more harm than good if you did them and the prob was something else!

But i would trust a chiropractor's diagnosis over an NHS doc for something like this - the chiro will do a specific physical examination and take a full case history. The doc will sit on the other side of the surgery, not examine you, not read your notes, write out a prescription for anti-inflammatories and only refer you if you keep coming back.

Cynical, moi? Just a tad.
