(The "worried well" should not take aspirin to ward off a heart attack as its preventative benefits are cancelled out by an increase in the risk of stomach bleeding, researchers have warned .)
read this in the news this morning and am on asprin. been diagnosed about a month now t2.
any thoughts on this as being a diabetic is really getting me down.

Stomach bleeding doesn't happen if you take dispersible aspirin and they often prescribe it to diabetics, because we have a tendency to develop cardiovascular problems. It's NOT like the perfectly, healthy, ALL SYSTEMS WORKING Worried Well, who just read a bit in the papers and decide to take aspirin, without a doctor's advice.. I had a stroke, before my T2 was diagnosed, and I wouldn't advise anyone to have one. It's scarey. I have fought hard over the last 5 yeas to get back to where I am, But it's hard work and I have to keep going or I slip back. Aspirin could have prevented this.

As diabetics shouldn't we all be taking (at least a little) aspirin each day? My doctor suggested that I take some dispersible aspirin each day but I never have for fear of the side effects...

Would anyone recommend taking dispersible asperin to a T2 like myself?

I take the dispersible aspirin every day.Except, I hate the taste, so I don't disperse it first, just leave it to my stomach acids to do.
I did know someone who was made ill by taking the solid aspirin, with severe stomach damage, which needed a couple of weeks in hospital to fix.

thanks for all the answers all, hanadr when i was young my uncle took a stroke and i know how hard he tried to deal with this every day so respect m8.
 
Hi, I am newly diagnosed t2. Have been taking Aspirin 7mg per day for a blood disorder I have which makes your blood sticky and prone to clotting (I haven't had a clot...yet) Mine is the EC protected pill which has a special coating which protects your stomach lining. GP says I need to carry on with that and that at that level of mg it should'nt be an issue. It doesn't taste nasty either so you cold try those instaed?

Since a Heart Op in 2004 I have taken 2 x 75mg Dispersible Aspirin every day. Never had any problems at all. As for the taste, I usually let them dissolve in a small glass of diet lemonade before drinking. Tastes just fine then.

Can't remember where but read an article about a year or so ago about taking a dispersible aspirin everyday, basically it said that there is a risk of a stomach bleed from taking a dispersible aspirin everyday, and that you should only take them if your risk of heart disease is greater than the risk of a bleed. Your risk being worked out by looking at factors such as BP, age, sex, diabetes, etc.
