Hi all has anyone else noticed when having to use ones inhalers that this effects your blood counts and causes hight readings.

Is it a steroid inhaler? Steroids will cause high blood sugar.

There is a clue in the name - they are glucocorticoids or alternatively glucocorticosteroid.

Although this is often not really explained.

I use three different inhalers, Airomir, Spiriva, and Symbicort for the COPD I have. I have not noticed a increase in the readings after using them. They must be lost in the background.

I will check again this morning but I am sure that the reading will be the same.

Studies have indicated some evidence that inhaled glucocorticoids particularly in high doses may have an adverse effect on the progression of T2 diabetes, as well increasing the risk of developing it in the first place. Of course that possible risk needs to be balanced against them being very effective in treating asthma.

I give it another try this morning, both bg readings were about the same. Must be the Metformin keeping things under control.
