Atkins and low blood

Hi all..

I was diagnosed with type 2 several years ago whilst at a mighty 22 stone!! Now at 16.4 and getting normal reading nearly all the time. Since Sunday I went on the Atkins diet( want to get down to 15.6) and increased my exercise(running) and today I'm getting readings of 3.4 4 hours after eating a healthy tuna salad, am I at risk? Do I need to introduce more carbs? Just a wee bit worried .

If you are on diet only (as your profile says), then I don't think that there is much to worry about. How were you feeling when you got the 3.4 mmol/l?
 
Hi thanks for your reply. Yes you're correct, diet controll only. I feel perfectly fine, normal reported symptoms with the atkins, little fatigued at times and slightly aching muscles! But generally fine! And hungry :lol:

Sounds good to me. I get 3.2s on occasions - no problem if you're not on serious sugar lowering drug unless you feel bad. Non diabetics as well as us can get low blood sugars but we don't get dangerous hypos the way insulin users can. At worst, your body will tell you it's time for your next meal.
 
BTW, some will tell you not to let your BGs go below 4, which is good advice if you're on insulin or similar because it allows them to take action before the dangerous lows those people can experience. but remember non diabetics will frequently be in the 3s, and it's not an issue for them or us if we're NOT on certain medication (and you're not)
 
You shouldn't be hungry Stuart, are you eating enough fat?

Hi Jane.

When I say hungry! I think it's just the change over from my previous diet as I woke uo today feeling fine. I have to add that I was never fat as such because I'm 6"8 lol

I will also add that I never feel satisfied after eating! Lol is that just the carb thing? :?
 
Go to Holland and Barrett nd gt dome psyilium husk tablets, 2 a day should sort you. Take it with loads of water otherwise it can block your gizzards lol, it does work tho.
