Atkins chocolate bars

Are Atkins chocolate bars really as low carb as claimed on the wrapper?
Just noticed a really big spike in my BG an hour after eating a 30g Crispy milk chocolate bar!

3:15 tested at 7.6
Went for 20 mins swim, 10 mins in jacuzzi
4:30 starting work (driver so testing every two hours), tested again, 5.8 - perfect, that's why I go swimming every day!
6: 30 test at 8.1, eaten the Atkins bar and drunk about 250ml of seven up free since last test

Seems a big jump for a total of 1.8g net carbs!

Am I wasting my money on these bars?

might be the seven up drink. Try drinking same amount again, test before and after to see which raised your BS.

Some people can tolerate sugar alcohols found in products like Atkins bars, some can't.

Having read the ingredients on the wrapper, I wouldn't buy those chemical-laden highly processed 'chocolate' bars myself. A 100g bar of Lindt Excellence 90% cocoa chocolate is real and very luxurious tasting chocolate, with only 18g carbs in the 100g bar. Few people could scoff a 100g bar all by themselves in one go and unlike some manufactured diet chocolate bar, dark chocolate is really good for you http://authoritynutrition.com/7-health-benefits-dark-chocolate/

I think all Atkins stuff should be avoided like the plague - they're chemical rubbish made to profit from his name and reputation, and probably not at all what he would have recommended when he was still alive.

If you want chocolate, do as @Celeriac says, and have a piece or two of the real thing. Much better for you and your glucose levels.
