Average since diagnosis

Just playing with my stats.

My average blood glucos levels since diagnosis (10th may) 2 months and 14 days (though seems so much longer ago). Is 6.8 with a deviation of 1.4.

I was 11.1% when diagnosed, how do I work out the percentage of the 6.8 average?

Thanks

Don't confuse yourself. Your blood glucose meter gives you result in mml/l yet the HbA1c reading is a percentage. I don't think you can convert one to the other and they are not interchangeable. The only conversions I know are to do with the old and new ways of testing the HbA1c level. This can be recorded as % (like your 11.1%) or with, erm...big numbers. Diabetes UK have a conversion table for this. My last HbA1c was 37 which equates to 5.5%. At the time, my blood glucose was recorded as 4.7mml/l.

Hope this is clear!
Good luck

Do you mean, if HbA1c is an average of your blood sugar levels, then which HbA1c equates to an 'average' of 6.8 ?
I've never done this, though I know either Xyzzy or Grazer have attempted to predict their HbA1c from their meter readings.
I believe some mathematical adjustment is needed.

Obviously 6.8 is NOT your true average. Only an average of readings, often meal-related.

If it were your true average, your HbA1c would be 5.6.
Every converter you'll need is to be found on this website. Click on the Diabetes.co.uk logo at top of page, then on blood sugar converter. There is then a list of possible conversions on the left of that page :D

You can convert from one to another. There are two commonly used calcs, based on trialling, and another less often used called the Nathan formula. probably others too. I use the Nathan formula on a TRUE average, having worked out areas under curves on my graphs of BGs. The others are supposed to be used on just the average of meter readings. They are fraught with difficulty though, as we all have different glycation rates, the accuracy of our meters is poor, we test at different times and on different numbers of occasions, and so on. Probably best to use your numbers as they are as a reflection of your control, and wait to get the proper HbA1c result at yout next test. Your numbers are looking good!

Yes, it is only my meter reading averages, just thought there was an easy way to compare/convert, even if not fully correct so can get an idea if I am goings right way.

Thanks chaps

Ok so using the calculator to convert HbA1c to Average Blood Sugar Level = 5.6% as you say Geoff, even if not accurate, it's still an improvement of 11.6% so if anything I would hope to be lower then diagnosis when I have my next HbA1c in the next few weeks (would be 3 months then).

BET you're lower than 6.5%!
Good luck

Thanks, I hope to be somewhere near that, that would be nice. Apart from a few hiccups,I have been super low carbing 20-35g of carbs per day and my readings are between 5.0-6.3 mostly mid 5's with a few high 4's thrown in.
