Avocado oil

While grocery shopping today, as always I was looking for things that might be better for me as a diabetic. I came across avocado oil. It was really quite expensive I have to say, but I bought some to try. Has anyone else tried it, and what did you make of it?

I made some home made lamb burgers tonight for dinner, and I fried them in the avocado oil and they came out really nice. So far I am impressed, but still curious about others experience with it.
 
Good question and I wonder if it's neutral tasting enough to make a homemade Mayo without having to use a grain oil? that would be good indeed! :thumbup:

Ahhh good thinking Paul. It could be worth a try.
 
Its lovely on dry skin, I actually use it in my homemade skincare products. But it is very good in salad dressing and its nice and green.

I use virgin cold pressed coconut oil on my skin and in my frying pan. I love how all these things have a duel purpose.

I have to say while avocado oil is quite pricey, I do think it will be my oil of choice from now on. It's really nice, plus it can be used as a salad dressing etc, the same as olive oil, but to me just 'feels' healthier for me.

Very mildly. I like avocado, but the oil is anything but overpowering, and it withstands very high temperature, so is brilliant to fry with. Definitely my oil of choice from now on.
 
I got a small bottle to try from Morrisons (£3.99) today. I've been looking for an alternative to olive oil because I don't like the taste.

I use hazelnut oil, and walnut oil on salads, it gives a nice slightly nutty taste when drizzled over, usually you can buy them in smaller bottles.

Let me know what you think of it, I like it.

I LOVE the idea of hazelnut oil. I will see if I can find some locally.
 
Its tasty, think Morrisons or Tesco sell it. Walnut oil is lovely too especialy when you pop some chopped walnuts in your salad.

I love walnuts, that's what made me decide to try it. I have a Sainsbury's and Asda near me, I never go into Asda, but I can shop on line at Tesco, so will check out Sainsbury's if that's a no go, order from Tesco. Thanks Dawn.
 
I've just fried eggs, bacon and mushrooms in the avocado oil and yes, from now on it will be my oil of choice certainly for frying. Lunch was absolutely delicious.
 
Use it as it is on your cleansed skin too, its great for aging skin :lol:
 
Ehm... ok, guess it can't harm to try it :lol: My skin is in pretty good shape at the moment, but I do suffer with really dry and cracked skin on my elbows. I might give the avocado oil a try instead of the Aveeno I usually use. Thanks Dawn.
 
I am impress by your enthusiasm with cooking oil. I am quite flexible with brand. Bertoulli ( not sure of spelling), or Borges are quite good. The latter is cheaper and has promo more often.
 
I regularly get walnut and hazelnut oil from Ocado (so presumably available from Waitrose too), and they also have a whole range of differently priced avocado oils, and I got mine from them on offer a couple of months ago.

Morrisons also sell walnut and lowish priced avocado oil, and Amazon is also often a worthwhile source to try.
