Avocados

I have just been and bought 3 for my wife and I for breakfast. Mine is peeled and sliced with bacon and egg.

I am not sure what should be done with these. Should they be cooked at all or always eaten fresh? My wife eats the flesh mashed up with milk and sugar so I shan’t be doing that. She even talks of Advocado ice cream.

Avocado is something I have ignored over a life time as I have never enjoyed them. Now is the time for me to find a way of eating them that is palatable....

Why eat something that you don't like? Bacon and egg should be fine. If still hungry just have more of that..
You're making this way to difficult for yourself.

You're making this way to difficult for yourself.

Just looking for ways of adding variety to my restricted diet.

I may grow to like them.

It’s a bit late now, it’s all gone down the hatch.

In that case I have seen then egg dipped, covered in ground almonds and pan fried to make "chips"
Scoop out the stone crack and egg into the hole and baked in the oven
Wizzed up to make guacamole.
But personally I wouldn't bother any more...

Why restrict yourself to not trying something new?
Our tastes may change over time or we may find new ways of preparing things we didn't used to like.
I am always experimenting with food and expanding my diet.
A dietician once told me most people only have 10 different meals they eat in rotation. I eat something different for breakfast every day and try something new for dinner at least once a week. Food is not meant to be boring (which it would be for me if I restricted myself to the same breakfast every day and only 10 different meals). There are some many flavours out there to discover and I enjoy my culinary adventures

I'm with @Listlad on this one. Time to experiment with avos.

Very true but from the way the OP was writing it seemed more that they were forcing themselves to have something they didn't like for the sake of "variety" .

In a way you are right. But as I said, when ones food choices are narrowed down, which they are under LCHF then one looks further afield at foods that one might have dismissed in the past. I always turned my nose up at them in the past as other choices were always readily available. Now that they are not I want to get a bit more close up and personal with Advocados. Any port in a storm.

But seriously my skin is dryer on the LCHF diet and am also looking for fattier foods to eat other than just plain pork fat and lard.

“Eating healthy fats supports skin health, enhances the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients, and may even help boost the immune system.” So says some dietician on the internet. Presumably it is true.

The other thing @bulkbiker is that my wife likes them so that we have something we can eat at the same sitting even if she adds sugar to hers.

I am also with Listlad on this. Thanks

Thanks. Any that you have tried yourself?
Not those recipes but I use them a lot - sliced with lime, guacamole, blended smooth and stirred into courgetti or green beans as a sauce, baked with eggs, with soft boiled eggs as soldiers. Sliced and wrapped in bacon, chopped in frittata- very versatile things full of goodness. Also very handy as a take with you food as they don't need a fridge I believe they make really good puds but haven't tried any of them as I don't remotely have a sweet tooth so don't bother much with that type of thing.

That’s a good point you raise about “ as a take with you food”. Just need a teaspoon.

Cut in half leave the stone in, put it back together, wrap in foil - will keep all day like this, don't forget your little wrap of sea salt and black pepper

Yeah well that’s it, the salt and pepper. It’s what to do with the advocado that stumps me. Thanks.

I used to eat one every day most of last year, but stopped over the winter. I prefer the Peruvian avocados, but haven't seen them recently.
I've never seen a recipe for cooked avocados, though there are recipes for avocado ice cream
If the avocado has my preferred taste and creaminess I just eat it without anything else, except sometimes a sprinkle of salt.
Or it can be given more taste by putting olive oil, salad cream, chilli sauce, Worcester sauce, garlic (or any other) mayo, or any salad dressing into the hollow left when you remove the stone.

I think that’s what I have seen other people do, i.e put salad cream in etc etc.

I was asking my wife about cooking them but she said she never did or would.
