We're big avocado eaters in my household, sliced or diced as part of a salad or halved and eaten on their own. (personally, I adore them with lemon and oil dressing, or a traditional vinaigrette, or even shop bought mayonaise if I'm feeling lazy).
But they are tricky to buy, as you need to eat them ripe but not over ripe. They tend to sit like little bullets in our fruit bowl before suddenly ripening, and you then have to eat them quick before they go brown and horrible (the green flesh browns and is pretty nasty once they (over) ripen, you've got a one or two day window while they're perfect). And there are lots of different varieties of avocado - different but all delicious. Many supermarkets sell them at the "bullet" stage, and sometimes reduce the price if they're still holding them when ripe, as they need to shift them then. On the other hand, some places will charge a massive premium to sell you one that's ripe and ready to eat that day.
