I do not have diabetes
Hi all

I posted for the first time about a month or so ago enquiring about prediabetes due to my ongoing thrush problem (I also have pancreas issues, chronic pancreatitis). The thrush has been going on 4 months now and is spreading further down the back of my tongue / where I can't see but can feel all the spots (my tongue is covered in red spots). GP said it might be diabetes (I have been testing my sugars now and again and had some numbers which are too high) also testing my thyroid. Had them done today, fasting glucose and A1C. I've seen some people mention a test where you have a sugary drink then bloods done an hour later - when do they do that test?

Thanks
Debbie

Hi Debbie,
The sugar drink test you refer to is a Glucose tolerance test, you have a blood test and then are given Glucose to drink and then a number of blood samples are taken over the next few hours. These are tested to determine the amount of glucose in each, and shows how your body copes with Glucose(Sugar) and how long it takes to get back to normal.
The tests you have had, a fasting Glucose test gives the amount of glucose in your blood at that time of the test.
The HbA1c test gives a average glucose in your blood over the past 9 to 12 weeks, and is really the only good indication for Diabetes.

There are ranges for the results, but
Once you get the figures let us know and we can let you know what they indicate.
Always ask for a copy of your test results as they are good for reference at a later stage
Good luck

Hi Darbs

I'm new to the forum and was reading through some threads. I noticed you said you has chronic pancreatitis. I was told I was glucose intolerant last week but have been having a lot of pain in my uper abdomen and left ribs - I am slim and eat relatively well with no history of prediabetes or diabetes in my family so was suprised to get the news..I was wondering if I had a pancreatic issue and wanted to ask how you got the diagnosis and what the symptoms were?

PS- Hope your bloods are ok

cheers
Shaun

Hi Darbs, Welcome to the Forum. Sorry to hear you have been suffering from Pancreatitis and severe oral thrush (not very nice). Hopefully, when you get your blood results you will get some answers. Come back and let us know once you have your results, if you do have diabetes there is a lot of excellent advice, information and support from everyone on here.

Good luck with the test results. All the best.
