Can anyone help me, I'm a 43 year old female who has had two kidney infections in the last two months, the last one quite serious with nearly being hospitalised. I have had blood taken and have been informed that my blood sugars are to high, I have most of the symptoms, thirst, urination, tiredness. How do I find out for sure if I have diabetes or if it is a side effect of the illness

I am sure someone with a lot more experience will be along to help but do ask your Doctor if you could have a HbA1c test as it will measure your average levels over a three month period.

Hi. Yes, the doctor should be doing an HBa1C test and/or giving you a glucose tolerance test (GTT). He shouldn't be doing nothing as the indication is that you are diabetic and high blood sugar can fuel infection due to bacteria feeding on glucose. The doc can prescribe diabetes medication subject to the kidney tolerating it if needed. Meanwhile ensure you have a low-carb diet to help bring the sugars down
