Awaiting shoulder surgery

When I went for preop tests I was told that the surgery would be cancelled as my Hab1c was 78 and should be 50 or 51. How do I get down to the number required?
 
Have had same problem but mine was a 164!! The highest allegedly they'll accept is 64. See your gp in case you need some meds or them changing and look at your diet, but it won't be a fast process, I assume you may need to wait 12 weeks to have another hb a1c.

And as its elective surgery they will be awkward, I have to be referred back when gp thinks it's at acceptable level. Believe me I've tried everything to persuade them.

I agree with bev,maybe a change of meds and diet possibly? I hope you find something that works for you to help bring your levels down.

Thanks, Bev. My GP was as annoyed as me. Her response was that as I don't have a life threatening situation they can afford to be very pedantic and wait until things are as they want it. She too said that it could take quite a time to get down to the numbers they want - 50 or 51.
 
And grasshopper I don't think there's didley squat we can do about it. I work in a hospital so asked my manager who was a surgical matron and she said they wont consider anything mainly because of the healing factor in that it takes longer, and risks of infection, and also in case they have a hypo on the table.

I need a gynae op and have developed carpel tunnel as well so that might at some stage need an op to release the nerve - even though carpel is done under local.

your GP will advise on meds, even if its for a short period of time.

Of course if it was an emergency they would have to operate it is all about damage limitation and reducing length of stay.
