B12 injections

I suffer from pernicious anemia and have to have B12 injections I am allergic to Iron so have injections without iron in them Blood count is about 10 now should be 12 so does having a low red cell count cause blood sugar meters to read low and blood sugars to go low

I have to take Ferrous sulphate tablets, and I also have a VitD/calcium supplement from my GP. I top the VitD up with Dlux spray. My BG readings are in the normal range, so I shouldn't worry too much. It can't harm to ask your GP if there are any effects when you see him/her next time, even if it's just for peace of mind.

Having anaemia makes your HbA1c lower than it should be. My diagnosis HbA1c was 7.7% but fasting levels were 14.4 mmol.

The reasoning behind this is that there aren't enough (red?) blood cells for the glucose to stick to. I'm still on a maintenance dose of ferrous sulphate over four years on.

thank you
I wish I could take ferrous anything but it would make me very poorly I get sick and flu like symptoms with oral medication and the only Iron injection I had gave me compartment syndrome from the swelling so I think I will stick with small amounts in food that I just about get away with

That's really interesting. If you get your anaemia under control (mine is pretty much) would that mean your figures would then be normal rather than low? I mean, diabetic normal (does that make sense, I know what I am trying to say?) or would they still run a little low?

I didn't know that as my levels have shot up over the last year and i developed anaemia (had to have a gastroscopy) .

Our DSN and myself are convinced that my husband has B12 deficiency. The GP says 'normal' levels are between 195 and 605 and his are 495. However, the NHS website says 'normal' levels are between 200 and 900. Anyway, the GP won't do anything so I'm filling him full of B12. He has a Vit B Complex pill morning and night and a sub-lingual lozenge twice a day. He doesn't like the sub-lingual ones so I've bought him some patches via mail order.

I'm constantly anaemic but, hopefully, my next tests will show higher iron levels as my low carb diet is packed full of iron.

Pernicious anaemia lowers the Hba1c? Oh stuff it. :x

I was diagnosed with this last year, not long after my diabetes diagnosis and have had two B12 injections so far, both times I have felt rotten afterwards and not in the slightest bit "perky" as I was told I would feel. I did feel however feel absolutlely fine before the diagnosis.

I have been given my form for Hba1c so given the fact that I had my last B12 jab in March, my level is probably right up..I don't think I'll go and get it done. You just can't win sometimes.
