Hi everyone,

My son is 2.5 years old am would like to have another baby.

I developed pre eclampsia at 26 weeks with my son and he was born early at 32 weeks. He had some breathing issues and was in nicu for 9 weeks and on oxygen at home for 9 months. Glad to say he is now perfect with no breathing issues.

Was at my clinic today and my consultant was trying to talk me out of having another baby and I'm so torn. I am trying to loose a bit of weight and get my bloods in order but am I being selfish? I know the risks are high but am I being really stupid wanting another baby? Just looking for some advice if anyone has any experience of pre eclampsia, thanks x

Hello!
I had pre eclampsia with my daughter also 2 and born at 35w. Luckily she didn't need to come home on oxygen after her stay in special care.
To be honest I was so traumatised after the birth (failed induction steroids emergency section not well myself etc) that it took me months to be able to talk about it without crying.

I didn't want her to be an only one and my twins have just turned 6m after being born at 35w. I didn't get pre eclampsia although I was so stressed that I would but my baby boy actually had literally a life/death complication and had to have surgery otherwise he couldn't breathe. He was in for about 7w but doing well now and not on oxygen just not sure how damaged his lungs are. After he came home my 2 yr old was diagnosed type1 diabetic and was in hospital with her for a week. Pushed to come home as otherwise think we would be in longer. She has also tested positive for coeliac.

My baby girl has got milk intolerances and bad eczema too.

Anyhow my children are absolutely worth it to me even though it's been really traumatic. I suppose you have to ask could you go through that again and what are the reasons your consultant recommending not to have another. Is your diabetes well controlled?
(I'm type1 since age 2 on a pump)
Xx

Thanks so much for your reply! Wow that's a lot going on with your babies! Big hugs for you all.

I would do it again, I know it sounds bad and wouldn't want any future children going through what we went through but we got through it.

My diabetes is ok and was ok through my first pregnancy. I am over weight and have high blood pressure and he just said it would be very high risk because I developed pre eclampsia so early last time. I've I've joined a slimming club and have lost some weight, my thoughts are if I can loose some weight and keeps by hba1c good then that's all I can do and need to hope my body is a bit better prepared next time. It's just the unknown I'm scared of!
