Hi all,

I have had lower left back ache for a few weeks now, we have changed the mattress but I still have it.

I am in pain mostly when walking and occasionally sitting down.

I cannot get an appointment with my Dr until next week and my DSN are rubbish at contacting me.

Is this anything I should be worried about?

Thank you xx

This sounds like either sciatica or something to do with your disc in your lower back as it is exactly what I had....couild be wrong though! Try not to worry too much! Good luck xx

Did you have an injury, or has it just crept up on you?

I had good results from a chiropractor. But I was very lucky to find a good one (they can be very variable), and of course there are many different reasons for lower back pain. No single solution will fit everyone...

(My problem was a displaced sacro illeac joint on one side. Caused by someone pushing a chair into the side of my hip as I walked behind them. 2 years of pain later, I went to the chiro and was 90% better within a week. The last 10% improvement was a combination of extra walking with our dog and changing the mattress. The joint still pops out sometimes, and the pain starts to build, but now I know what i am doing, I can pop it back myself, and a day later I'm back to normal. As I say, no one answer fits all.)

Could be a number of reasons for the back ache, best to wait until you see what your gp says or try and get an emergency appointment if the pain gets any worse.

Thanks for answering, do i need to go to the doctor or just walk more ( gently ) each day ? x

Well you say the pain is much worse on walking, I would be inclined not to aggravate it any more than necessary and wait until you see your gp.

We cannot possibly advise you until you have a clear diagnosis - but please don't just let your doctor tell you to use anti-inflammatories without a physical examination.

I don't know if you have a local minor injuries unit near to you. We have one near us and it's a turn up and let them have a look job... no appointment necessary. Generally nowhere near as busy as A & E...
