I was taken off my metformin last year as my doctor said my readings are 50 and should be 53. He won't give me tester strips as he says I don't need them. I have given up red meat and only eat chicken and non meat products I have given up bread and potatoes.
I love my food and have a sweet tooth and keep to sweeteners. But although I have tried low carb it didn't seem to work for me.
But now I am having problems with my kidneys as they are getting worse. Can anyone here who mught have any simular problems please and could offer me some advice.
 
Are you on any other medications ? Lots of them interfere with kidney function.
My poor old aunt was on 17 meds, when her kidneys failed they stopped all but 4 of them immediately!

Thank you Daisy for your reply I am on a byette injection twice a day an hour before I have breakfast and evening meal, I am on quinine for cramp perindapril which my doctor has just increased from 2mg to 4mg I take eztembre a satin cocodamol for pain at night and paracetamol when needed of a day and immodiam .

What a load of tosh! (IMHO)
I am just reading my latest results and the notes state;-
Good control <50mmol/mol HBA0
Fair control 51-65

So where does your Dr get 53 from????
 
Just looked up one of your meds and it could be a problem (in the side effects)
Do NOT use perindopril if:
  • you are allergic to any ingredient in perindopril
  • you are pregnant
  • you have a history of angioedema (swelling of the hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue; difficulty swallowing or breathing; or hoarseness), including angioedema caused by treatment with an ACE inhibitor (eg, lisinopril)
  • you have severe kidney problems
  • you are taking a medicine that contains aliskiren and you also have diabetes or kidney problems. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure if a medicine you take contains aliskiren
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Have a look on the leaflets in your other meds and get in touch with your GP ?
