Granny Grump.!!!!There are some great ideas on the forum I started the LCHF last year around October but went on holiday in May and fell off the wagon,I put on a few pounds and I am now trying again so fingers crossed I will try to stick with it this time.It wasn't that the foods where not filling or sustainable it was just me being a little lazy with the veg.
I will keep looking on the forum site for more of your ideas so here goes wish me luck!

Good luck!

I find that veg always becomes much more interesting with the addition of cheese, cream, garlic, butter, mayo, herbs or spices (not all at the same time!) so adding some of those may help.

Still on LCHF second time around and back to my weight in May since dropping off diet, but having had my results from my latest December fasting bloods my cholesterol has gone up from 5 to 6.1 and the doctor has called me in for a chat. What is the amount of fats per day I should be on maybe I'm overdoing butter cheese full fat yogurt etc. My carbs are low and I do intermittent 24 hour fasts twice a week and skip the odd meal but the weight doesn't fall off but my body fat is reduced.Dropped a dress size already,I've read about others who don't lose the weight easily may be I'm one of them, been on every diet there is including Slimming World etc. Nothing worked long term, but this increase in Cholesterol is worrying don't want to do Statins again had lots of bad reactions to them in past,I'm 70years old but still want to look good in nice clothes anybody out there got any answers for me would be much appreciated.

Various studies appear to show that older women with higher cholesterol live longer...ask your doc about that.

Hi and well done for your success so far! I usually eat 5% carbs (at most), 15% protein and 80% fat including plenty of butter, full fat everything, cheese, mayonnaise, all the yummies, and the weight is dropping off. Well, a little blip the last ten days but nothing major. After some research, I'm unconcerned about my cholesterol levels and this sums up why - http://www.zoeharcombe.com/the-knowledge/we-have-got-cholesterol-completely-wrong/

There is a history of stroke in my family but it's my decision to carry on with LCHF and avoid statins. We're all different and best of luck with your choices.

Good luck. I find it fairly easy to stick to LC. I hate walking into one of the popular cafe chains though, and thinking that almost everything on display is poison to a diabetic. I usually just have coffee and cream. A treat is a couple of squares of dark chocolate - but I did make that ricotta cake someone mentioned the other day. Good look.

Thanks for your reply to my question on fats and cholesterol read the link on cholesterol so will try to stop the worrying about the fats I consume. I find I really have to cut the carbs down so I eat around 20 /25 per day or my blood glucose goes up,but like you my mum had a heart attack and my father had many mini strokes I'm trying my best to stick with the LCHF diet because it works and I'd like some retirement time with my husband who still has six years to work,so I will keep to the diet and listen to what my doctor has to say next week. But I'm not doing Statins no matter what they say, will see where it all takes me.Thanks again.

Like your reply on cholesterol and the older woman I certainly qualify and hope the live longer works!

I have had heart attacks and TIAs in the past .. my heart and cholesterol has improved greatly since I moved to LCHF way of eating. I even stopped taking statins...

You sound like a very sensible woman. No statins, because you've researched and seen the downside, an LCHF diet for the same reason... You are doing your best to have a long and healthy retirement with your loved one, which is all any of us can do. Thumbs up!

There is no actual connection between the cholesterol in diet and cholesterol levels in the blood - it was just assumed, but by that logic my blood should be green from all the chlorophyll I eat - and it wasn't last time I looked.

Lol! Dr Atkins and Professor Yudkin had it right all along, more than 50 years ago. No point repining, but a bit irritating that other forces, financial forces, were deemed more important. The whole obesity/T2 explosion might have been headed off.

William Banting had it right a hundred years before them - but he had to self publish his 'Letter on Corpulence' back in 1863 as he was considered a crank, or misguided - nothing much changes.

It does say something that 'banting' is still used as a verb in South Africa and some of Scandinavia to describe a low carb diet. He's made his mark, pretty impressive for an undertaker who just wanted to be slimmer and healthier. And I believe his dietary advisor was also an advisor to Queen Victoria, though that may be apocryphal.

Thanks to all wishing everyone a healthy and fabulous 2017!!!
