There can be a number of reasons for cramps, so all replies so far could be right.
Some on this forum, myself included, find taking magnesium helps. Magnesium is also great for heart health

Some take tablets. I use a spray as I believe it's better absorbed transdermally.
Add to that that diabetics can tend to be low in magnesium

So, whether magnesium is your answer to cramps or not, it seems sensible for diabetics to supplement with it.
Geoff (I've had my fair share of cramps )

Magnesium is supposed to help too @Tracyann35

Can you think of anything that might have caused this? Sometimes when it's very hot, I can get cramps. I put that down to extra perspiration.

Three years ago just after diagnosis I started getting severe cramps in both feet and calf muscles, especially at night.
Tried various things from the doctor with no effect. Started taking lycopene supplement and within 3 days the cramps stopped never to return! Problem is I daren't stop taking it in case the cramp comes back. Definitely worth a try.

When do you get cramp, is it mostly in bed? I mainly get cramps in my calf at night and do take quinine for this, but have personally realised it is often linked to the position my legs/feet are in. I have found that if my legs are straight, and I lay on either my front, or back, the toes are forced into a position of pointing straight down (by either the bed, or the weight of the duvet). I read somewhere that at this point, an involuntary attempt to extend the feet further despite already being stretched, causes the muscle strain, and therefore the cramp. To counteract this, I have found that either lying on my side, or with my feet dangling off the end of the bed reduces the occurrence. Appreciate this may not be true for many, but does help me.
