I am just over one month into my new way of life. I thought I had accepted this and come to terms with it, but today has been a demoralizing day. I have felt rough, peeing pints, and so sleepy and fuzzy headed, just like before I was diagnosed. I fell asleep over my keyboard at work twice this morning. :( And when I was working I found it hard to focus on the computer monitor.

I woke with BG of 8.8 and its gotten WORSE as the day has passed.

The highest was 11.6 2 hours after lunch (which by the way was cheese, lettuce leaves and 2 cherry tomatoes).

Breakfast was tinned salmon on quinoa crisp breads (total carbs 15g).

Supper was homemade beefburgers with 100g of Heinz low sugar baked beans and a fried egg.

I had 8 almonds as a snack.

Sorry, for my moaning. For some reason I found today hard.

Regards,

Carol

Carol, sorry you have had a bad day. You say today was like before you were diagnosed a month ago. What has changed in that month? Have you been put on Metformin? Your diet today looks pretty healthy, has it been like this for a while?

Thank you, Jim.

I am on one 500g Metformin SR tablet with breakfast. I have changed my diet and added more exercise to my daily regime. (I did 5km on the exercise bike this afternoon). I have been eating this way since diagnosis, but ate badly before. I have lost 11lbs in the past month, and 3.5 stone before that.

Regards,

Carol

Hi Cazza,

You are doing all the right things with your diet and exercise and doing brilliantly. Your weight loss is amazing. Maybe today was a bad day because you are starting with a cold or virus? Maybe because of the heat? Both these things affect BS levels. Don't lose heart. Tomorrow is another day. Stick to what you are doing because it is working ... today was just a blip.

Wow you are amazing! Sometimes our bs just does it's own thing! Keep going :)

Thank you for the encouragement my friends. Yes, tomorrow is another day. Hopefully a better one. :) Here are a photo of me before the diet (!!!) and a recent shot.

Have you been tested for Vitamin D deficiency, Cazza? Having mine diagnosed/treated made the biggest difference to my energy levels, even more so than getting my BG level down. Definitely worth checking.

You look like a different person, Carol ,,, I think we all have our bad days where our BG doesn't do what we think it should ,,,, I know I always feel worse if I don't get enough sleep ,,,make sure you're getting the proper rest, along with your diet and exercise :)
Keep it up ,,,you're on the right track !

You're going great guns Cazza! This life is like being on a hamster wheel. There are always things to contend with and no let up.
I started on 3 doses of met but when I got down to 1 I was advised to take it with my evening meal. I don't know if it makes a difference.

I've been surviving on 4-5 hours sleep during the week at the moment and I didn't realise it could affect bg so thanks whoever posted that. I've never been good in the heat either.

Super photos. You'll be posting more soon!

Keep up the good work.

No, I haven't been tested for vitamin D deficiency. I will ask the doctor the next time I visit. Thanks.

Thank you Rico. Yes, I am pleased that the weight loss is beginning to show now, although I still feel fat.

Ah now you may have something there, Rico! I don't get enough sleep really. Usually about 5-6 hours a night, as I work until 11pm and hubby is up in the mornings between 5 and 6 am. A bit tricky that one.

hormones, infection, stress, not enough metformin, or all 4?
if your normally ok and this is a hiccup, review in a week to give time to settle. I started on 1000 met and went to 1500 to get a decent morning reading
unless there is a clinical reason to have 500?

Yes, yesterday did appear to be a hiccup, although this morning's BG (taken in bed before rising) was again 8.8, so we will see how today goes.

The doctor prescribed 500mg of SR Metformin, but said she had other options if it didn't work well for me. If I can't get the readings down to somewhere near normal on this dose I'm guessing she will increase it next time I see her.

Thank you, Peacetrain. Like you I was unaware of a lack of sleep affecting BG readings. I am sure the hot weather isn't helping either. The doctor explained that having the pill with breakfast meant it would work all day while I was awake. Guess it doesn't do much for the overnight readings though.

Maybe the beans? I don't think I can handle beans these days :(

Keep up the good work and test the foods you're eating. The heat makes me totally wiped out and zombified. Awful!

Diagnosed prediabetic Easter 2014. Just left to get on with it, no guidance or help from GP. Every day I'm learning something new.

Thank you so much everyone. Today was a much better day. I even got a reading in the 6s this afternoon! I also had enough energy to blitz my kitchen! Cupboards emptied of sugar and high carb foods (sorry hubby - although the neighbors were thankful for the freebies), and everything scrubbed and rearranged to make cooking from scratch easier.

I do sometimes shout "Stop! Let me get off this roller coaster!" but I guess the best I can hope for are gentle humps rather than a wild up and down ride.

I am so grateful that I found you all when I did.

Regards,

Carol
