Baked beans!

Hi,

My pump consultant wants me to try something like beans on toast for breakfast instead of my usual no added sugar Alpen. I do find I usually avoid spikes after breakfast and usually have a decent BG after 90 mins. However, she wants me to see if a change in breakfast will make things even smoother for me. Have to say haven't tried the beans on toast at breakfast yet (ewww!) but did have them for lunch a couple of times. I used the Hovis Nimble wholemeal bread (ie small slices) and a small tin of reduced sugar beans both times, and my levels after 2 hours were around 14! (post-lunch levels aren't usually a prob for me). So am dreading trying at breakfast.

Does anyone else find this and also do you bolus for the full amount of carbs listed in the beans? When I did DAFNE a number of years ago we were told to only count half the amount of carbs. I only tend to knock off a few grams...

Oh by the way, I also use multiwave for all my meal time boluses.

Hi Pickle

Have you tried just using the standard bolus to deliver your insulin instead of multiwave. You might find that your bg levels behave better.

I find that normal beans (heinz or branston) on toast (burgen) don't spike me at all and I always bolus for the full amount of carbs in them - one food that does work a treat and causes no spikes for me. How we're all different.

Hi,

I haven't actually as the multiwave has been working really well for me. But maybe I'll try it for the baked beans! Thanks :)

Hmm, well maybe I'll bolus for the full amount and not knock off 3g/4g or so. I'd had the Heinz benas but the reduced sugar. Hope I can get some better after meal readings as I do like beans on toast! Am yet to feel enthusiastic about it first thing in the morning though! Thanks.
