My parner has been T2 for about 3 years now.... two weeks ago he went to thr gp with a suspected UTI.... the nurse practioner wasnt interested in his UTI she just kept on and on about the fact that he had ketones present in his urine and then she told us he had to go to the hospital to be put on a drip to rehydrate him because having these ketones was so terrible... even though I told her we follow LCHF.... so off we go to the hospital, the diabetic nurse comes round... asks us why on earth we're there and confirms that OH doesnt need a drip... gets dr to write prescription for UTI.... 7 hours later we got home..... such a waste of time and resources because the nurse practitioner at the gp surgery is uneducated!!!! Is our NHS really that behind the times?

I dont think most GP´s know anything of ketones from real low carbing eating style..., You could write them a letter complaining all the waist of time and explaining why there is ketones in urine without being ill from that...

It is my experience that they have a harder time ignoring written text than words...

I would but to be honest theres not much point...not much would be done! As much as it was a waste of our time, what angers me the most is the hospital resources that were wasted, because he was admitted to the EAU he had to have an ecg and a chest xray plus another set of bloods and they even made a hospital porter take him to xray in a wheelchair because apparently it their policy!!! When all you hear on the news is that the NHS is in such a crisis and money is wasted on unnecessary things like this xx

Sounds like that is reason enough for a complaint, in writing, about the nurse who sent you on the wild goose chase.

The problem is, unless she learns differently, she will do it again next time and think she is doing the right thing. Which will mean that more money, time and resources are wasted.

It can be frustrating when you receive confusing health care.
I'm honestly thankful your partner was looked after so well. Many get the opposite help!
I understand the nurse hadnt heard of ketones from lchf diet. My gp nurse hasnt either. They only train in basic care for diabetics as of asthmatic sufferers or others. They are a general care nurse not specialist care. Just like a gp not a diabetic specialist.
Their emergency procedure will save lives! Not many patients follow lchf and their opinion it is a lifestyle choice not a nhs followed diabetic diet.
I'd rather nurse be safe than sorry! Educate your nurse if you need their support. Mine is openminded but has to do her job too. Saving lives!
