Hya I'm new and would like to inspire as many people as I can about how I changed my life after having bariateic surgerey,I was an insulin dependant diabetic for 20years,also on metformin and glictazide, besides taking pills for a heart condition, morphine for arthritis, the usual statins and thyroxine for thyroid ,oh and 228 units a day of insulin! Two years ago I weighed 19 and a half stone or about 120.9kilos And a dress size of 22 ,I am 5'9 so nobody ever realised how much I actually weighed, but I did and I was so unhappy with myself ,not even my husband knew who I had been married to for 42 years! Bless him ! But through my gp I went on to have the surgerey and WOW has it changed my life! If anybody is interested please let me know as I have a lot to let you know ,but just to give you a little point,I now weigh 11stone or about 73 kilos and a dress size of 10 or twelve! And no injecting insulin! What do think?

Very well done; I think it is amazing. You should be very proud of yourself. I hope you will keep the weight off long term, I have a feeling you will.

I am a "skinny" T2 (just under 5' 3" and now 7 stone since low carbing; I was 8 and 3/4 stone so normal weight for my height; I am now quite underweight and scrawny!!!! Dress size 6 or 8 depending on the make.

Hya in my world I never even considered about being so thin,I was always so big myself,so to hear a bit of your story has really surprised me ,I'm am so sorry to presume everybody was like me who had type 2, I still train 5days a week so I have a good shape and no excess skin, so yes I have commitment to my body and firstly my brain!!! Good luck and thank you for my first reply !

You are welcome. Everyone (including me) was shocked that I was a T2 diabetic as I was only diagnosed when I went for my free NHS medical and had a glucose of 18.6mmol/L and an HbA1c of 10.4% with absolutely no symptoms at all.

Hi and welcome @Gypsey1 I too was very much over weight when diagnosed and have lost 8 stone from my heaviest (6 from diagnosis). I did this through an 800 cal/day diet for many many months (see my signature for a link to my first 3 months journey). I am so happy that you have had great success and a changed life. Mine has also changed for the better. Normal bloods, sleep better (no more snoring/apnea) no more coughs and not always too hot.

Can you give us a little more of your journey - how hard was it? How successful is it at returning your BG levels to normal? What do you eat now. I am really happy you have "fitted back" into your skin. I am also lucky in that I have as well.

Hi and welcome!

That does sound like an amazing success story. Delighted you feel so well.

Hya when I first started my journey my bmi was39.7 today it's 23.4 ,I still train at least five days a week, mainly to keep healthy but honestly to keep my shape and not have any loose skin! I am taking janiva,100 1 a day and metformin 500 morning and night, I was disappointed at first to have to go back on any diabetic medication as I have met other people who had the same surgerey as me and take no medicatin at all and were completely clear of diabetes, but my consultant explained to me that as I was a diabetic for twenty years and injecting all that time, that most people who have been diabetic ten years or less are the ones whose bodies seem able to completely reverse the condition I can eat most things but bear in mind my stomach pouch used to be the size of a football ( like most people) but now mine is the size of an egg ! If I eat the wrong foods too much fat or too much sugar, I can spend up to forty minutes on the toilet , I eat often but very small portions,I don't go out for meals,I don't smoke, and I don't drink alcohol,,but it might sound a bit boring but it was all those things I used to do is some of the reason I got the way I did! I went back and studied to get a diploma in dog phycolagy ,that was about six years ago but I couldn't exercise the dogs that came to visit me,due to my excess weight and painful joints, and of course the tiredness,my husband did all that while I did all the re training, now it's me that sees the benefit of my training as I'm the one that's out walking about 3to5miles a day with the dogs! I'm 60by the way and did not have the bariateic surgery till I was 58 ,so I always say when you find something you really want ,go for it no matter what age you are and keep going for it in mind and body

Hya great to hear your story and really good that you are helping your body to cope better with conditions that life throws at us! My story I hope will let you know just what is possible and out there to help us deal with type 2diabetes,it won't get the the better of us positive people!

Rather drastic but happy it worked for you

Congratulations @Gypsey1
