Type 2 Basal insulin and weight gain

D is caused by a number of things; autoimmune, pancreatic damage, hormone dysfunction, raised ferritin levels, insulin resistance, non-autoimmune beta cell death, fatty livers... there are no simple answers which is why T2 is used as a blanket term to cover several of those situations.

@Ronnie_dog I am sorry your thread has gone derailed so quickly into other subjects.

Could people please bear in mind that Ronnie_dog came here to ask a question. So far only two people have addressed that.

I'm kinda curious as to what your idea of a strict LCHF diet means for you. Can you give details of what a typical meal consists of for you, it can vary person to person. Favourite foods? Snacks if you do snacks? What breakfast is if you eat it etc?

Yes sure, a typical day would be chia breakfast - full fat organic coconut milk with chia seeds, collagen powder, cinnamon, ginger and mixed nuts and seeds soaked overnight, then combined with full fat Greek yoghurt or extra thick cream and a small amount of blueberries or a quarter of an apple. Lunch - maybe some almond bread (whizzed almonds, 1 egg and some butter) with some meat/fish, bit of salad etc or maybe an omelette with cheese, onion and tomato or maybe just a big bowl of mixed salad (spinach for sure!) with some nuts and maybe some chicken with a nice dressing of EVOO and apple cider vinegar. Dinner will be a home-cooked meal from one of my many low carb cook books or from recipes online (diet doctor, dr axe, I breath I’m hungry, ditch the carbs etc) all totally low carb.
I do NOT eat potato, sweet or standard, rice, pasta or standard bread. I don’t snack as I’m usually full. I drink tea with full fat, often raw, milk, coffee with cream, water (fizzy and still), red wine.
I do not have sweets, cakes, crisps, biscuits (unless I’ve made a low carb pudding for an occasion). Very occasionally I’ll treat myself to some 85% cocoa chocolate..... which I must admit I dunk in my tea!

Fab menu choices, all except the tea/choc combo... that is... er... :***: well, frankly I am speechless.

Aw come on.... we all deserve a little dunk!

Haha! I am ALL for dunking, but now that hobnobs are a distant memory, I am afraid I draw the line with choc and tea.

Edited to add: Sorry, still can't comment on your insulin question, and now I find myself derailing your thread myself! Will stop immediately.

You may need to see a specialist such as an Endo. If you were a typical Type 2 case, in the vast majority of cases exogenous insulin would not be a requirement, the quarter of an apple is a relative small amount and personally I would not do collagen powder. Your Doctor may not have the knowledge to help you, so in your shoes I would ask for specialist help.
