Basal into blood stream

High and low sugar levels!
A load of blood from my basal injection this morning.
Tresiba once a day am.
So potentially basal all gone within a few hours?
Just wondering what tips anyone can advise on dealing with this scenario to get back to normal asap?

Tresiba is a very well-looped insulin. When I wanted to move the injection time from evening to morning, I skipped the injection for 12 hours, and then in fact duplicated the dose, I expected hyperglycemia, and then severe hypos, but my bg was fine. So I don't think you should worry.

Hi,

I’d treat it like a “how much did I actually take?” Scenario..

Keep a closer eye than normal on levels & correct accordingly.
I would be a little concerned it caught a vein?

Hope yer OK..

I thought if that was the case, then it would work VERY fast and the OP would know about it before they had a chance to post a new thread.
Seeing some blood come back after injecting is less likely to be an issue and would not mean that all (or the majority) of the dose was not taken.
I would just keep an eye on levels and correct as normal with a bolus if numbers started to creep up.
It is often said that Tresiba is very forgiving because it is active for so long.

Hence my initial comment of, “I’d treat it like a “how much did I actually take?” Scenario..”

It is also worthwhile mentioning a potential fast drop to anyone reading thinking they may possibly have hit a vein…

Started low and stayed low through the day. So I suspect not into a vein.
More a case of one of those rarer times when your body decides it needs less insulin. Felt it comeing on for a few days now, will probably need a 10-15% basal reduction. Strange how suddenly your requirements change.

I remember the syringe days. I was actually taught to draw back a little, to make sure you see no blood!
