Type 1 Basal Testing

Hiya, could someone please guide me on how to basal test? Need to know if my long acting insulin is at the correct dose. Also i have read that you have to fast, if so what can i eat that shouldn’t effect my levels, as i get quite hungry quite often so going long periods with no food will be difficult for me

Hi @emily deacon When doing a basal fasting test you cannot eat otherwise the test results will be skewed, so instead break it down into different time periods instead of going a whole day, https://mysugr.com/basal-rate-testing/

I think the easiest way to do a basal test is to eat your last meal at 6pm, so you are sure the fast acting has left your system by 10/11pm. Make sure your level is within range and then check in the morning to see if its within 1.5 mmol.
