Baths

I always hypo when I have a hot bath.
I think the real reason is because of nerve damage though, if you don't know you have it then you may burn yourself and not know about it because you can't feel how got the water is.

Thank you for your reply. I was diagnosed with pre diabetics and bg is normal levels now. Should I not be having hot baths? I do feel dizzy when I get out, is this likely to be related to the pre diabetes?

I don't know anything about pre diabetes I'm afraid, I've been type 1 since childhood.

If you can then try and test your bg before you get in to the bath and then test it again afterwards to see if there's any difference. Other than that I can not help you!

I have never been a bath person as they make me hot and flustered. Saunas also make me feel funny. Mind you, I hate being cold! Must just be sensitive to extremes of temperature. I think extremes stress the body, sometimes that can make you high or low. Best just to have a warm/tepid bath if they make you feel dizzy and don't stay in for long x

I have always felt a bit dizzy after a hot bath. Nothing to do with diabetes in my case. It is very common for blood pressure to drop after a bath, which is the cause in my case.

I have low blood pressure to start with so if it goes lower after a bath that will be why I am dizzy.

I had a phase of plummeting sugar levels following a hot bath.
After my check up with the doc i was informed that it was due to me injecting in the same place too often. I had a build up of insultin under the skin which was released by the hot water of the bath.

Since varying my sites and now the lump ( which I couldn't notice and thought was just a bit of a podge coming on) has gone down I can now bath away without problems.

Nobody ever mentioned anything to me about hot baths in the last 38 years...
I can certainly feel if it's too **** hot.
I can appreciate heat causes insulin sensitivity.. Which has occurred after a shower if I've "jacked up" & had breakfast first..
I've sauna'd in India & Finland.. No issue..
Though, a number of years ago, I was advised at a health spa in the UK regarding this.. (Or rather my wife was regarding me.) Which I thought they may have got it wrong..? You know how it is with the "Non D" they quite often do....!
 
Diabetics with neuropathy have to be extremely careful with having a bath due to loss of sensation in the hands and feet, for type 1's a hot bath can be dangerous if they have taken quick-acting insulin in the hours leading up to the bath, heat speeds up the rate in which insulin is absorbed so it can lead to hypo's.
 

I would concur.. It's still interesting the conflicting or omitted information diabetics are given/not given..
In my case I learned it from my wife "second hand" from a health spa therapist..

"Sugar waxing "... (Oh er!) Is something else I was warned about at this place....
(For obvious reasons never occurred to me.) Though in fairness, that wasn't what I had signed up for.
