Hi all I won one of these in the free competition on this site. I would reccommend it to anyone, its quite big but very easy to use, the strips are on a drum basis so less fiddly and the lancet device is painless, much better than the free Glucomen meter the local pharmacy gave me.
Just wanted to say, have been diagnosed with t2 (diet only)since start of May and my bg seems to be fairly well under control generally, no lower than 4.5 and no higher than 9.0 after meals so I am chuffed. HB gone down to 7 which is a big improvement although I know it needs work. Also after 6 weeks on Simvastatin my cholesterol had improved a lot. Only prob is my bp whcih remains high so am having a ecg in 2 weeks then poss meds for that.
Have managed to lose half a stone over 5 weeks, slow but sure. Still, in total have lost 1 stone 9 since April so at least I am going the right direction!! 3 stones to go tho!
Just wanted to say I appreciate the support from this site, I have gleaned so much useful info, especially about the carb debate, on advice I bought the Collins carb book and it has helped me make better choices, nnot necessarily low carb but more educated changes, and its lovely to read about other's experiences and I have had some lovely supportive remarks to my enquiries too.
Don't feel so alone, its damm scary when you first think oh god, i've got this for life.
My practice nurse said "don't take any notice of websites and chat rooms" I soon told her, actually it is very helpful and if these people have improved thier health by making changes it speaks for itself, are you diabetic? she said "no I am not" I rest my case...!!! lol.
Anyway, thanks again
Chrissie
