Anyone got any good recipes for burgers? I've never made them before and all the recipes I've seen contain breadcrumbs or crushed cream crackers - are they really necessary?

No. Usually I just make a patty from just ground beef, sprinkle a little salt and pepper and fry it. If I'm feeling ambitious, I'll mix the meat with a couple of eggs, a finely chopped onion and a little Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper first. I didn't know there are recipes for burgers.

I use turkey mince a lot in mine as it is less chewy than beef mince. I fry a finely chopped red onion and some crusted garlic till softened and brown. Allow to cool. Then add to a bowl containing the mince. Season well and add some Tabasco or other hot pepper sauce. Use hands to mush it all together well. You can vary the spices or use herbs. Sometimes I pop a tablespoon of oil in the mix here if the mince looks very lean. Form into patties and chill till firm. Heat pan and spray with oil. Pop burgers in and cook through till browned on both sides - I usually end up cutting one in half be to sure they are cooked. When nearly done pop a slice of cheese on top of each one( I use one with jalapeños in) and cook till melted. Serve on top of portabelllo mushrooms that you've done with garlic butter in oven and salad.

I use bread crumbs in mine so won't post the recipe, but make sure you add some fresh garlic to your burgers Rowan for that extra taste :)

Finely chop some garlic ,chilli and onion to add to the mince and a splash of water .mix together with your (clean) hands .Turn regularly as they cook so that they cook through evenly

Hmm
I never gave making my own burgers a thought till now.:)
I may experiment tomorrow , I wonder if you can get the cheese on the inside of the burger.

Yes you can. Just make 2 thin burgers (same size) plonk a slab of cheese between them and squash down the edges of the burgers, forming 1 big burger. The cheese will melt in the middle. NOTE: be careful, the cheese can get very hot. You can also add a combination of other ingredients into the centre of your burgers (surprise).:D

So I made some lovely crust less mini quiches today, not exactly burgers, but was proper proud of em, lol

Hi Adrian, I used a Yorkshire pudding tray with 12 moulds in.
1.Spray oil the tray & put oven onto 180c
2. in a bowl I cut up 1 pepper, some broccoli(bout 6 florets cut into tiny pieces), and I cooked some back bacon up and chopped that into little pieces, obviously trimming the fat off. Mix it.
3. Spoon the veg/bacon mix into each mould in the tray.
4. In separate bowl crack in 4 eggs, 2 flat tablespoons flour, 100 ml milk, little salt, lots pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg, whisk or blend to a batter.
5. Grate some chedder, I use mature, then sprinkle a little cheese on top of the dry mixture in the moulds.
6. Gently and slowly pour the egg mixture on top of each mould.
7. Pop in on for 20-22 minutes until golden then remove from oven.
8. Leave to cool 5 minutes before gently slicing round the edges with a blunt knife(I use a dinner knife)and sliding them out of their moulds. Yummy.....
I reckon only about 2 carbs a quiche. You can experiment with other veggies too, enjoy:)

WOW Thank you very much for that LaineyK. The only thing I haven't got out of that lot is a 12 piece YP tray and Nutmeg but will have in about an hour. If I don't get called out to a job today, I will have a go at these tonight.
Thanks:happy::happy:

Awww, glad I could help. I'm newly diagnosed type1 about a week ago, and desperate for yummy recipes, the quiches are a success as they have no weird sweetness in, so don't taste like 'diabetic' grub, lol. I've made chocolates with cocoa but yuk!! Even with sweeteners yuk!!, the peanut butter fudge is quite nice tho....
Basically, you use 1/3 tub peanut butter, low fat variety normally has low sugars I've found also, I used sainsburys. Bout same amount of coconut oil, this I found harder to find, but tescos has it, it's actually saturated fat, but has loads health benefits I believe!!. 1/4 small cup almond milk, I use Apro. A pinch of salt. Melt the peanut butter and coconut oil in a pan on the hob on low for a couple minutes, stirring.. Then transfer into a bowl add the almond milk, pint salt and blender it up!!! Till smooth, then line a small square inch high or so dish with baking paper, then pour mixture in, and put in fridge for an hour, viola!!! If it's cut into 15 pieces, it's about 2.9 carb a piece.

Ooh, forgot, you might want to add artificial sweetener to taste for the fudge, warning, though, don't use stevia, Lordy it's disgusting!!!! Ha ha .
