Hi Sid

Welcome to the board. It's a bit of a shock when you are first diagnosed, but you'll find lots of help and advice here. Daisy will be along in a bit with her excellent welcome post with lots of great advice.

Hi Sid and welcome to the forum Here is some information which should help you to get to know all aspects of diabetes including food. Ask as many questions as you like as there is usually someone here who can answer you.

I have to wait till monday to find out weather im type 1 or 2 but i would like some help with the way i feel
i just feel so tired etc
what could i do to help till monday

Hi Sid welcome to the club. Keep reading and you will soon learn what seems to work. Most of us low carb, which for you is going back to the good old english breakfast. Eggs bacon mushrooms, no bread and no beans (or very little). Salads with cold cuts, cheese, eggs etc. And good fats in olive oil, butter, avocado, cream.
There is a low carb recipe thread for some good ideas, but google low carb and up will pop loads of sites with recipes.
Keep away from anything white - rice, pasta, white bread, potatoes.
You will soon feel better, beware the odd headache to start with.
And you will feel tired if you are eating alot of carbs.
Do let us know how you get on, good luck.

thanx dawnmc

Hi Sid many diabetics eat porridge for breakfast but many find that it raises their bg levels too much, you really need to test before and after eating them to be sure if they are OK for you. Wholemeal bread is exactly the same as white bread as regards blood glucose levels wholemeal just has a little more fibre but the same amount of carbs, wholegrain or multigrain is usually better but again you really need to test to find out if its OK for you

Welcome to the forum BTW

Oh we still drink

Beer, especially real ale can be a bit carby, but wine particularly dry white wine is fine.

so are Brandy, Cognac, Cointreau, Gin, Grand Marnier, Baileys, Rum, Tia Maria, Cinzano, Vodka, and Whiskey - perhaps in the same glass  if it's a big night !

Just remember that although the right drinks have limited carbohydrate they also contain alcohol... one of alcohols main unpleasant side effects (for a diabetic) is that whilst your liver is busy dealing with removing it from your blood stream its not generally doing its usual job of slowly releasing glucose into your blood..

Although not such a worry for a non-insulin controlled diabetic it is certainly something you need to keep in mind if you use insulin to manage your diabetes as you may find yourself unexpectedly going hypo.. Also remember that this process can continue for a long time after you finish drinking..
