Hi all, well we are about 6 weeks in to our 10 year old daughter being diagnosed type 1 . I would be interested to know what are the levels you like your children to go to bed with without panicking!

Hello:)

Although I can't offer first hand experience, I'm sure someone will be along with some soon.

What levels did your Dr and DSN suggest for your daughter's BG before bed?

The question you should ask yourself is what would make you panic?

Has your daughter been having nocturnal hypos? Have her morning readings been similar to those before bed?

I'd imagine that panic is normal for any parent, but providing that things are on course with her diabetes you should try not to worry too much. Your diabetes care team will be there to offer advice to you at any time you need it. Even if it's just reassurance you're after, they're only a phone call away.

Regards,
Grant

We tend to aim for between 4.5 mmol and 6.5 mmol for bedtime with our 5 year old, same as during the day. But we have CGM and nightscout, so we feel very confident that we can intercept highs and lows over night. Prior to CGM we were testing 2 hourly during the night!

Thanks for that, I think with still being new to all this I just panic a bit when she goes to bed thinking something horrendous will happen to her in the night! she wakes up about the same she went to bed at usually it's between 6-7mmol , the libre sensor graph does give some reassurance that things have been ok during the night .. I was reading somewhere that they like their child to be at about 10 before bed and they've not had hypos in the night at that level

We was told between 7 and 9 but in reality the number going to bed is pretty useless, LO has gone to bed over 14 and still had a low at 3am. Just try and keep it stable, if they've been extra active that day I'd maybe give a snack

We try and get levels between 7-9 for bed but we always give a snack when below 6 to hopefully avoid hypo around 2am when BS drop, but this can't always be stopped.
