Im taking medicine for a stubborn cellulit that begin with a wee somewhat inflammed scratch on ankle, that escalated. My hb1a-c has varied from 5.5 to 7.8 over the years. At present it is 7.5 but blood glucose was recently 268. and a new doctor new doctor is requiring i switch from my current dose 2x500mg metformin 3xx 80mg glyclazide to INSULIN injections to facilitate the i.v. antibiotic treatment for cellulitis. Is that drastic step really necesary and can I and may I go back to the normal glyc+metformin treatment after the 7-day antibiotic treatment.
Thank you

your docs obviously have a reason why they want you to do that. Insulin isn't scary and in fact would probably help do the job well. From what you're saying it is only a short term treatment for you while you get your IV treatment. If you're producing sufficient insulin yourself then you will probably be placed back on your usual meds that you were on after that treatment. You could always look at your diet too and see if you need to make adjustments to that. But if you have an infection right now then your docs would be concentrating on getting quick control of your sugar levels. I wish you the best. :)

My appreciation to you for a superb, helpful response. It allays all my concerns. I forgot to give my age: 81
