Well I am nearly 4 weeks into being diagnosed with diabetes and I am beginning to have an issue.
I have increased my Metformin to 2 in the morning and still 1 at night, felt alright Saturday, Sunday morning got up had a small fried brekkie, low carb, went out for a walk with the dog, but on the way home in the car I began to feel a bit weird, a bit like I get when I have a migraine, eyes struggling to focus, bit shaky and achy, but knew it was not a migraine, got home and crashed out on the sofa for 3 hours, didn't feel much better until the late evening. Today much the same without the sleep (I was at work), before lunch I tested my BG and it was 9.8, which for me is the highest I have been for a week but not by much, (my lowest over the last few days was 5.0 and highest 9.3). But the thing that felt the worst was the slow shaky feel, not fast like a shiver from cold, more slower and more of a stutter type feel, has anybody come across these symptoms before? what causes it, and if I can how can I stop it? I know its probably my body getting used to my new diet and the lack of my sugar intake and my body readjusting to the 'new' me! but not felt like this before, so I do not know what to expect and how to relief the fee,ling of being 'washed out' if I can put it that way. I am eating healthy and fairly low carb' with only one lapse a week (Saturday was an Indian takeaway), Eating 3 meals a day and at regular times most of the time.
Thanks for any advise.
Gary.

Hi Gary. I was diagnosed at the end of Aug last year. I remember feeling pretty despondent too for a while, as I felt worse than I did before I was diagnosed. Especially as I felt pretty much fine before my diagnosis! It took a couple of months before I started to feel better. I was tired all the time and felt generally rough. I feel much better now.
So, it could be your body getting used to lower blood sugar levels, or it could be a case of 'carb flu'. If you google carb flu you can read up on the possible symptoms. Apparently adjusting to lower carbohydrate levels can bring on a washed out, fatigued state until you start to adjust to it.
However, having said all that, I really would give your GP a call if you're really worried.

Hi Gary, Im not really experienced enough as most people on this site to help you as only joined this week and was diagnosed with Type 2 a couple of weeks ago, but I started a low carb diet last week and did my usual 25 minute to work yesterday morning but my arms were shaking and my legs were aching, my arms were still shaky and weak when I was at work and I had a very sickly headache all day. I have still got to get the testing machine so dont know my readings yet. Sorry if this isnt much help to you but I think it must be to do with your body getting used to the different diet. I would wait to hear from the more experienced though. I hope you feel better soon.

Hey is this shaking etc all linked to metformin which will also promote longevity? Was diagnosed when I had high blood pressure last year and I never gave the doctors a chance to write a meds script for me cos I fled.... But since I started on lchf my BP stabilised but i do wonder if my diagnosis is all a dream cos am fit and healthy. .. walked snowdon twice last year....

Sorry to hear u not feeling too good zacthedog... hope u and other fellow diabetics recover from yr ailments

Couple of mornings ago i got the shakes really bad and feel sick but i am seeing less symptoms and feel better more quickly, headaches most days.

Almost guarantee that is probably it. Slow change in diet recommended but your body will adjust.

@zacthedog

How much water are you drinking? Have you increased you fluid intake as you have reduced your carb intake?

Have you been reading about low carb (bone broth, increased fat, etc) or have you just reduced your carb intake?

And was your 3 hours on the sofa on the Sunday, the day after your curry lapse? Or was that a different week?

Sorry to give you the 3rd degree interrogation, but they are all relevant. :)
