I am type 2 diet controlled, all well.
Yesterday late afternoon I started to feel unwell, just a sick feeling. I had had a headache all day. I started to be sick at about 6pm and continued being sick all evening, up to about midnight.
Considering I had not eaten for 11.5 hours ( a boiled egg, slice of wholemeal bread and a low fat no sugar yoghurt) my glucose levels were close to 12 at 1.30am. I re-checked at 7.30am they were 8.1 Just re-checked at 10.15am and they are still 8.1 I have not eaten yet, just half a cup of tea.
I feel like I have a dreadful hangover and a pounding headache ( I usually get these bad headaches if I sleep too long)
I have a slice of dried toast sitting here to eat, but not really feeling like it!
If my sugar levels go up would you head to A & E if you were me? I live in Spain, we have private health cover, our Dr is not there until Tuesday but we can head to the A & E if urgent, we are covered there.
The one good thing about being so sick is I have lost the extra 1lb I gained last week, I am now down 1/2lb on last Friday
I would rather not feel so ill though! My skin feels ´sore´ I do not have a temp nor diarrhoea just been very sick . We had friends stay last week and they bought some peanut sauce from the Chinese supermarket, I tried a little yesterday afternoon, I think it might have been that- it is in the bin now, I never want to look at it or try it ever again!! It was sugar free though!
I hate being sick!

It sounds like you've had a bit of a stomach bug...

If you T2, diet controlled then the likely hood of going into DKA is pretty slim, a T1 diabetic in similar circumstances, would implement the 'sick days rules' which is check BG and Ketones status to determine which line of the Sick Day rules you'll going to follow.. If no ketones, or a trace then normal correction if BG is high, then plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.. And keep checking status every couple of hours.. If high BG, more than a trace of ketones the you use a larger correction, and keep checking every couple of hours...

If BG's and High Ketones started before you were being sick, and you start vomiting then you head off down A&E, as it's likely that the DKA is spiralling out of control...

DKA, is really based around insulin within the body being way to low, even to sort out basic functions, Hence why T1's are more susceptible to it than a T2, T2's generally keep producing enough insulin to keep themselves out of serious trouble..

Hope you feeling better

Thanks for the reply Jopar, I am feeling much better this afternoon, I have kept the toast down and my glucose levels were at 6.1
Just feel hungover without the booze!

Sunhat ... that's weird because yesterday my BG was up by approx a little over 2-3 points during the whole day and I hadn't eaten anything I normally don't either the day before so it really puzzled me. I also felt a bit sickly and headachy but I felt hungrier too and wasn't sure whether to eat or not to eat because of the BG's. And the feeling of being hungover but without the booze is an expression I've used a lot over the past few years. It's horrible. Is that also a symptom of high BG I wonder?

Anyway today they were down to 7.4 on waking and have risen to 8.0 two hours after eating my brunch. I don't feel at all hungry today so I probably won't even bother with another meal, I'll just have a couple of small snacks I think and see how it goes.

Like yourself, I'm T2 and although we hear a lot about hypos and what to do if we have them, we don't hear much about hypers and what we're supposed to do if BS goes very high. I don't even know what 'very high' is or what to do about them. I've probably been in hyperglycaemia for the last ten years at least! So what's new? :eh:
