bellybutton piercing advice

Hi All


My daughter wants her belly button pierced for easter! Please advise!! her sugars normally are 10 - 14ish... type 1 - she has no problems healing and isnt prone to infection. anyone got it done?
 
Hi,

Be sure to use a reputable person to carry the piercing out, and be aware that healing time is longer for people with diabetes. I notice that you say your daughters blood glucose are between 10-14, these levels are far to high, and it would be advisable that you and your daughter discuss this with her diabetes consultant or nurse to bring these levels down. Until her levels are stabilised, I would put off the piercing and consider it at a later date.

With good blood glucose control, recovery time will be less than when are running high, so do please bear this in mind.

Tell her not to do it.
My daughters ended up as an infected bloody mess, and that's without the complications of diabetes. :( :( :(
 
Hi I had my belly pierced 10 years ago for a 30th birthday been type 1 since 1994, and my sugars are always in double figures. It may be the wrong advise but i had difficulty healing, i changed the bar for a gold one and it healed with in the week. I also have tattoos and other body piercings - never had no problems. just because she is diabetic don't let it rule her life, she is young and as long as she is sensible and you let the piercer know, there should be no problems x
 
As Dave says - don't let her do it! :shock:

I, too, have seen some dreadful messes but I do wonder why would you want to do that to yourself anyway?! :roll:
 
If she is 16 or over, knows her own body (as she seems to), has full confidence in the piercer and asks to see all thier relavant licenses and /or diplomas, then I say support her. Forbid her and I guarantee she'll get it done anyway. Ensure the bar is gold or titanium.

The vast majority of piercings gone wrong are the result of poor hygiene AFTER the piercing. Folks think that they only have to pay attention for about 6 weeks and they are very mistaken.
