Hi, everyone, what are your favorite apps for managing diabetes at home? I would appreciate if you can also mention the pros and cons of each app.

Hi @yzhang20 ,

Welcome to the forum.

What are you looking for regarding app use?
There could then be more appropriate suggestions tailored for you.

I tend to manage my diabetes on the fly.. App wise "I don't leave home without it."

Depends on what you're looking for in an app. For me it's the app connected to my Freestyle Libre, where I can follow what my blood glucose does 24/7 and add things like food and insulin doses.

Thank you for the answers. I am looking for an app that provides medical advice for dealing with various situations. For example, what to do if my blood sugar suddenly jumps up, or what to do if I am taking steroid or what to do if I accidentally overdose myself with insulin and so on. It will be even better if the app can also give me advice based on the trend/pattern on my CGM

I am currently on steroids. I wouldn't trust any app to tell me what to do with a steroid spike.

Hi,

a lot of this depends on experience & knowledge of how your insulin works.
Monitoring helps with a gauge on trends & decisions made on actions with BG management.
The stuff i use (to draw an analogy.) is more like the dashboard of a car. But i'm still in control of the "vehicle."

What insulins are you actually using & which CGM do you have.?

I have type 2 diabetes on Lantus once a day and Humalog (sliding scale for high blood sugar) plus oral medications. I am located in the US and lost my insurance recently due to job loss from the pandemic. Now I can hardly afford to see a doctor, so I am looking for online/mobile medical resource that provide reliable information on how to manage diabetes by myself, to tide me over this time until I am able to get insured again.

Can I ask whether you have adjusted your diet for the T2?

https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html <-- give low carb eating a shot. Just test your heart out, because you'll most likely hypo when combining that with insulin and drugs.

I'm sorry to read of your misfortune.
Take heart that there are free (& add free.) apps out there that can help you track progress & spot trends to help you with your managment.
You mentioned earlier using a "CGM." What set up are you currently using?

I have been working hard on diet to keep the blood sugar stable and I was on freestyle libre sensor. Probably I have to stop using it as it is too expensive out-of-pocket. The other day my blood sugar was low at night, so I was wondering if I should skip the Lantus. Finally I skipped it, and the blood sugar was too high the next day, But now it finally starts to calm down. Probably what I did was not the best approach, and expert opinion will definitely be helpful.
I really appreciate your responses!

You should always follow up a reading under 4 with a fingerprick. Libre is notoriously inaccurate under 4.

Hi,

OK, so you have been prescribed Lantus for a reason. Like any basal use it's the "foundation" to build on?
Before looking at anything else. Basal testing is advisable. Your recent diatary change may have highlighted your basal may need a tweak. https://www.mysugr.com/en/blog/basal-rate-testing/

Before looking at what the shorter acting insulin is doing.

Hope this helps?
