Better control but still feeling generally rubbish, something else going on?

So I have a history of not being great at keeping my diabetes in control, and in fact just a few months ago my A1c was 11.2%, but I needed to get in control as want to try for a baby so have done everything I can to turn things around. I'm still not perfect despite a lot of testing and adjusting but it is so much better and I'm getting there. However the last few weeks if anything I've been feeling worse. I am tired and have no energy, feeling so unfit and getting out of breath going up stairs or gently walking to work, I'm snapping at work and getting grumpy, and I feel like my arms and at times my legs are 'going to sleep' all the time, with tingling and aches and feeling like I've slept on them funny even when there is no pressure on them at all. I just feel generally a bit rubbish. My sugars are still not perfect and I am still getting lows and some highs but the swings are nothing like what I was like and my averages are so much better, I don't know if this is something I just need to give more time or if I should see my GP? And if I should is there anything specific I should be asking about? I can't remember the last time I saw my GP for anything, I usually really avoid it!

I would see your gp and discuss matters Jody.

I never really go to the doctor, probably because I'm 29 and apart from the diabetes have not really had any need too, although there are the little things that some people probably would go about but I just ignore. I suspected I had diabetes when I was first diagnosed but thought I was imagining it and would look like a hypochondriac if I went so I didn't go until my mum also noticed something and even then I was still quite surprised I actually did have it even though I had every classic symptom. I think I'd like to get thyroid and b12 checked (I know thyroid was normal last time but can't remember when that was) but always worry I'll look stupid if everything is normal!

Yes, do check thyroid and B12. Irons, too, at least Hb and Ferritin. And CBC, to check for further indications of anaemia.

Your TSH should be normal low as in at least below 2.5, preferably below 2 when you try for a baby.

Well I have made an appointment for next Monday, I'm probably just imagining it but I think I'll feel better if it gets checked! I can't stop yawning at work and it's not that demanding!

If you really want to try for a baby you will make sure you get the proper tests.

Definitely see the gp - but also am interested in how you are getting better control? Perhaps cutting out certain food has had an effect on your energy? I cut out carbs for a week and at first felt great but ended up feeling tired and hungry so have started to re introduce carbs in small amounts - hope you feel better!!

I haven't cut out carbs, I have maybe cut down a little but it has been more changing the choices in carbs, for example soya and linseed bread instead of white, rye ryvitas instead of crisps, and working on timing of boluses and fine tuning basal! I have tried in the past and I just struggle to cope with low carb!
