Thanks to all who replied to my BG and exercise entry. Spiral asked about my diet. I follow a very low carb diet which has made a lot of difference to my weight - dropped 30 lbs and I'm confident that I'll lose more because I actually enjoy the diet. I also thoroughly enjoy my exercise, in a beautiful part of Highland Perthshire, so I'm hoping the combination might get the metformin cut from 2x500 to 1x500. I have always been very active, running marathons and training up to 60 miles a week when I was younger, as well as rock and ice climbing on big mountains all over the world. Despite all that I kept putting weight on and the medics wouldn't believe me when I told them that I was not over-eating, even when my wife backed me up. I now believe that my exercise and my diet were what stopped me from full blown diabetes for the last 40 years until age stopped me exercising as rigorously. When I was diagnosed in April I was very angry with the medical profession for ignoring my pleas over many years to look more closely at the workings of my system. The irony is that the local team I have now couldn't be betttered. Anyway, end of rant, and looking forward to my next Hb - the first at the end of July was 7.2. I'm hoping that included the period pre-diagnosis! frandia
