My GP put me on Metformin SR from the start so I was lucky and have never had any problems apart from the metallic taste for 6 months but cannot compare with non-SR. I tend to be tolerant of pills so I can't judge whether anyone else would be OK with SR but they are designed to be slow release and less agressive on the system; worth a try?
