This morning at 9.30 my FBG was 5.6 and then before lunch, it had increased to 6.7 and I had just taken only 2 cups of unsweetened tea in between which resulted in higher reading 2 hrs. after lunch of 8.7 returning back to 5.5 in exactly four hours. I had not noticed this pattern earlier. Can anyone help what is happening here?

Was there milk in your two cups of tea? That could account for the rise, mixed together with a liver dump due to a perceived lack of glucose in your system. Liver dumps are not confined to the time you wake up. They will happens at any time. If your lunch took 4 hours to return, I suggest there were too many carbs for your body to cope with.

Thanks. Yes, there was milk in the tea. So the liver dumps can happen whenever one fasts for longer periods. I do understand about the lunch spike though.

Liver dumps happen for other reasons, too. Exercise is one example. If I were you I would have something fatty and no carbs as soon as you get up.. A coffee with double cream is as good as anything.

Milk is full of sugar, especially skimmed and semi skimmed.
